1997 saw the Worcester County Sheriff's Office again working with the Worcester County Commissioners and Board of Education, when a Drug Abuse Resistance Education deputy was hired and assigned to augment the existing DARE program. This deputy provides elementary DARE education, and supplements the intermediate DARE officer supplied by the Maryland State Police, who shares their DARE officer with Somerset County. Feedback from the efforts of DARE officers assigned to Worcester County has been nothing but positive from educators, parents, students, and communities.
