In 1996, the Sheriff's office entered the Worcester County school system and detailed one full-time deputy to handle all complaints within the schools of the county. As a direct liaison between the schools and law enforcement, the deputy acted as an investigator, mentor, and patrol officer for the local schools. This individual intervened in conflicts between students, contacted parents of students involved in conflicts, and handled other complaints within the educational facilities. This deputy has been received within the school system positively by the teachers and administrators. The Worcester County Board of Education has requested a second deputy for the growing school system and we were able to meet this request and now have two deputies working in the schools.
