Training Section
At the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, we firmly believe that well-trained personnel are the cornerstone of effective law enforcement. Our Training Section is dedicated to providing comprehensive and ongoing training programs for all our employees, both sworn and non-sworn and is committed to maintaining a highly skilled workforce.
The Training Section’s responsibilities encompass identifying training needs, organizing in-service programs, supervising our personnel during training periods and contributing to all agency-wide training plans. They design and deliver training modules covering a wide range of topics and they oversee numerous critical programs of the agency to include law enforcement procedures, use of force and de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, and force tool training including firearms and less lethal tools.
The personnel assigned to this section act as liaisons with the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions, other law enforcement agencies, the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy and other training providers to facilitate comprehensive training initiatives. They also facilitate specialized training sessions to address emerging issues in policing to enhance the skill sets of our personnel.
The Training Section plays a pivotal role in overseeing the recruitment and hiring procedures within the agency. They are responsible for ensuring a thorough recruitment processes and background investigations in order to safeguard the integrity of the agency's workforce. Integral to this responsibility is the management of the agency's field training program, where they supervise all sworn employees from entrance-level training through their eventual assignment to solo duties. The thorough execution of the recruitment and hiring function is critical in upholding the Sheriff’s Office’s high standards of professionalism.
